Bourne police chief suspended for leaving firearm unattended

Bourne’s police chief has been suspended for allegedly leaving his firearm unattended.

Town officials said Chief Brandon Esip removed his service belt and holster to move some boxes and left the belt sitting on a bench unsupervised.

Another officer noticed the firearm and reported it.

The weapon was unarmed and the service belt did not contain ammunition.

Esip was issued a five-day suspension with two days delayed.

The town administrator said those two days will not be served as long as there are no more similar violations over the next year.
